Jacksonville, Florida

Jacksonville is the largest city in the State of Florida in terms of area and population, and has the 12th highest population in the nation. Approximately 794,555 individuals call the city home.

Located near the St. Johns River, Jacksonville was founded in 1791. Originally the city was called Cowford, due to the fact that the river had a narrow point where cows once crossed. When the U.S. acquired Florida from Spain, Cowford was renamed Jacksonville after the first military governor of the Florida Territory, Andrew Jackson, who later became the 7th President of the United States.

The city was ranked the third cleanest city in the U.S. in 2008 by Yahoo! Real Estate. Forbes magazine also deemed Jacksonville to be the fourth best outdoor city in the nation.
