Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville was originally founded in 1779 and called Fort Nashborough, after the Revolutionary War hero Francis Nash. It was later made the state’s capital in 1843. Because of it’s convenient river ports, it quickly grew as an area of commerce and latter a major railroad hub. Currently, it is the second most populated city in the state of Tennessee after Memphis.

After the creation of the Grand Ole Opry in 1925 it became known as “Music City USA”. This was helped by the already flourishing publishing industry in the area. Although it is still a major area for these two industries, it also has a major health care sector and has both a strong banking sector and is known as a transportation hub. At this time, it is the fastest growing city in the Upper South.

Nashville’s fastest growing jobs are: Court reporters, pharmacy technicians, environmental engineers, umpires, referees and other sports officials, network and systems and data communication analysts, motorboat mechanics, fence erectors, orthotists and prosthetists, home health aides and animal trainers.

The fastest growing industries are: education and health services, information technology and leisure and hospitality.

High wage occupations are: Anesthesiologists, dentists (general), internists (general), obstetricians and gynecologists, oral and maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists, pediatricians (general), physicians and surgeons, psychiatrists and family and general practitioners.
