Known as the “City of Oaks”, Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina and the second most populated city in the state. As of July 1st 2008, approximately 380,173 people called Raleigh home.

Raleigh is considered the 15th fastest growing city in the United States and was rated the ninth best city in the country for job growth by Forbes magazine in 2008.

The city was picked to be the capital of North Carolina in 1788, but did not officially become such until 1792. The city was named after Sir Walter Raleigh, who sponsored the colony of Roanoke, which is known as the “Lost Colony.”
